Expanded Tech Data facility creates configuration boom
Volume of outsourced configuration orders grows tenfold after opening of new integration centre
Tech Data Canada, a leading provider of IT products, logistics management and other value-added services, today announced that the expansion of its integration centre earlier this year has created a tenfold surge in order and unit production.
The ISO 9001:2000 Registered Mississauga facility, the largest of its kind in Canada, allows solution providers to provide end users with custom configured products. The recent infrastructure expansion, completed last December, includes 160 benches with Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, KVM switching control from 25 stations, and additional servers to manage image uploads and back-up capabilities.
"Our ability to supply and stage the inventory, configure the product, and ship to an end user on behalf of a reseller can potentially save days off delivery time," said Rick Reid, President, Tech Data Canada. "Our throughput capabilities allow us to manage several customers at a time, process orders of any size, and coordinate delivery to a specific customer install date."
The facility's bench capacity can accommodate up to 360 desktops/laptops or 270 servers at any time, which can equate to a throughput capability of over a thousand units a day. In addition, Tech Data now employs more than 45 technicians working multiple shifts within the centre.
"Our expanded integration centre reaffirms our commitment to corporate resellers selling into small and medium businesses as well as large enterprises in Canada," said Reid. "The investment we've made to create a configuration facility of this scope offers another valuable resource to our channel partners who specialize in selling solutions to their customers."
Services available at the integration centre include imaging and operating system setup for PCs, hardware installation and network OS setup for servers, server rack assembly, router installations and upgrades, printer memory and adapter card installation and testing, asset tagging, and customized rollout management.
