New tools at techdata.com

The RAD team has been working on a series of smaller enhancements and new tools for www.techdata.com, driven by customer competitive feedback.

Order Entry Lite

This tool is a simplified version of the online ordering applet. It allows customers to quickly place an order using their default warehouse, shipping carrier and shipping destination, and fast-order product when they already know part codes.

To place an order, the customer would perform a product search and, once the desired item has been returned in the product results page, he would add it to the shopping cart. Then, using the link on the left navigation bar, he will open the Order Online Lite tool, which will be populated with the item he just placed in the shopping cart. On that screen, the customer will enter the quantity desired, a P.O. number, and his email address to receive an email acknowledgement of the order. (Alternatively, if the customer already knows the TD part # or the manufacturer part #, he can open Order Online Lite from the left navigation bar and start directly on this screen by entering that information manually.)

Up to 10 line items can be ordered with this tool. Upon submission of the order, a new browser window displays the details of the transaction for verification. At this point, the customer can choose to either edit the order or complete it as it is. Upon clicking on the "Complete Order" button, the order is processed and a message box displays the Tech Data order number. If the customer has entered an email address, a confirmation email message is sent. Any item not in stock in the customer's default warehouse is backordered.

Order Entry Lite has been translated and customized for the Latin America/Caribbean/Export web site, where it is available in English and Spanish.

The Order Entry Lite tool is a great, streamlined option for those customers who can place orders using their default settings for warehouse, shipping carrier and shipping destination. It becomes even more convenient when the customer knows the TD part # or manufacturer part #, since the entire purchasing process can be completed in 2 screens and only 3 clicks.

Shopping Cart Favorites

This tool enables the user to create personalized categories in which to group together the products he orders more frequently. The user can create as many folders as needed and give them a name of his choice. By creating these categories or groups of products, the user can add the entire group to his order in just one easy step. Favorites could serve resellers for quotes or maintaining standard configurations for ordering.

This functionality will unquestionably speed up the ordering process by eliminating the need to search for product every time the customer logs on to the web site. Unlike the items placed in the regular shopping cart -which will time out after a certain period of time- these categories of products will be available to the customer in every visit to our web site, since they are tied to the user's login ID.

SBU Wizard

This tool is a Q&A system that steps a customer through the decision process to select a product. The decision tree can be maintained by the SBUs and is expected to be used to provide additional focus for a small group of specialist products.

The list of products is displayed in the Product Search Results page, which means that the customer can very easily add the product of his choice to his Shopping Cart and complete the entire process -from product identification to purchase- in just a few minutes.

All the questions, answers and product solutions are stored in a database, which allows the SBU sales team to maintain the data and act based on the customer's profile and interests.

Initially the SBU Wizard will be made available for the Digital Imaging SBU.

Compaq CarePaq

Compaq CarePaq is a new tool that allows the customer to keep track of the extended warranty programs and renewals.

The search for extended warranty agreements can be performed by serial number, invoice number, invoice date or manufacturer's part number. The application will return a list of all agreements that meet the criteria, with a "Details" link that displays information specific to any given agreement. The customer is then given an opportunity to request to be contacted by a Compaq Services Representative to renew the agreement.
