Tech Data's new EC Admin tool lets you take direct control over the users of your Electronic Commerce account and their access rights. It allows real-time maintenance of your account information and provides enhanced security and flexibility in a very user-friendly environment.
For this new version of the tool, you will designate one Master User, who in turn will create as many Admin Users, Account Users, Group View Users and Group IDs as needed for your account.
Note: Latin American/Caribbean Customers please see the Help Section for details on how to enter specific data.
| Important: The only difference between Admin Users and Master User is that Admin Users cannot modify or delete other Admin Users. For all other practical purposes, both types of users can manage acount-level information with the same level of access rights. |
Becoming a Master User
If your company does not have an Electronic Commerce account with Tech Data, submit a TDInteract User Agreement to get one. You will receive your Master User ID and password by mail in about five business days.
If your company has an Electronic Commerce account with Tech Data, the contact name indicated in the TDInteract User Agreement has been desginated as the Master User for your account. Access changes for other users should be referred to that person.
|
Note: If your account had more than one Master User, the oldest active Master User ID has been retained for the new tool. |
Access changes for the Master User should be referred to EC Support at the appropriate number below:

The structure of the EC Admin tool
The EC Admin tool is composed of five screens or tabs: EC Admin Home, Account Profile, Personal Profile, User Administration, and Password. These are the tabs that appear on the horizontal bar across the screen. There is also a Help button that links to comprehensive information and instructions on how to use the tool.
Each one of the screen above houses one or more views, indicated by the links that appear on the left sidebar menu. The views listed above the double line are specific to the EC Admin tool, while the views listed below the double line (Home, Product Search, Online Ordering and Order Inquiry) are links to other EC tools within Tech Data's web site.
The EC Admin views, in turn, consist of different sections known as "applets". There are two types of applets: the "form applets", which look like a typical form with labels and fields, and the "list applets", which display records.
The screens of EC Admin:
- EC Admin Home This screen provides a log-in link to access EC Admin or, if you are already logged in to the system, it displays a Welcome message, the date, and any other relevant information or announcement.
- Account Profile: This screen houses the Addresses view (on the left hand side) and is the primary area where Admin Users and the Master User manage account level information. For example, from this screen they can add, edit or delete Ship-to addresses, as well as modify the company's main phone number, main fax number and URL. This screen is only available to Admin Users and the Master User.
- Personal Profile This screen houses the Profile view and is the area where each individual manages his/her personal information on file at Tech Data. It is available to the Master User, Admin Users, Account Users, and Group View Users.
- User Administration: This screen is the area where Admin Users and the Master User manage contact information. It houses the following views:
- All Users (available to the Master User and Admin Users)
- Non EC Users (available to Master User, Admin Users and Group IDs)
New feature: this is where the Master User and Admin Users can delete other users' system access
- EC Users (available to the Master User and Admin Users)
- Admin Users (available to the Master User and Admin Users)
- Account Users/Group IDs (available to the Master User and Admin Users)
- Group View Users (available to the Master User and Admin Users)
Admin Users and the Master User can add, delete, and modify contact information, as well as specify EC access permissions.
- Password: This screen is the area where users can modify their own password. This function is not available to Group View Users, whose password is always associated to the password of the Group ID to which they belong. Note: The Master User and Admin Users can modify other users' password by clicking on one of the user category views in the User Administration screen (described above) and selecting the Change Password column for the user they wish to modify.
Making changes to data in the EC Admin tool
When making changes to data in the EC Admin tool, you will be using applets that enable you to make many changes on one page. Please be aware! Click the "SAVE" button to save your changes. Exiting the screen before clicking the "SAVE" button will invalidate all changes made to the fields on that screen.
